Super-elastic Scintillating Fibers and Fabrics for Efficient and Visual Radiation Detection

Abstract The fabrication of advanced radiation detectors is an important subject due to the wide use sources in scientific instruments, medical services, security check, non-destructive inspection, and nuclear industries. However, manufacture flexible stretchable remains a challenge. Here, we report scalable super-elastic scintillating fibers fabrics for visual detection by thermal drawing melt-spinning methods using styrene- b -(ethylene- co -butylene)- -styrene, Gd 2 O S: Tb (GOS). Microstructure evolution, rheological properties, radiation–composite interaction are studied reveal excellent processability, elasticity, ability fabricated fibers. Benefiting from physical crosslinking structural features polymer matrix absorption capacities GOS, resulting fiber can sustain high strains 765% with content GOS dopants (2 wt.%) has X-ray performance limit down 53 nGy air s −1 .
